Surgical Dental Extractions
When a tooth experiences decay, trauma or infection so severe it cannot be saved with a root canal, your dentist may recommend for the tooth to be extracted by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon like Dr. John Won in Brier Creek. Dr. Won will always do his best to preserve your natural teeth, but sometimes teeth have become too damaged or decayed and cannot be salvaged. When that is the case, Dr. Won’s Brier Creek team will perform a gentle tooth extraction to carefully remove the entire tooth.
A wisdom tooth or other tooth that is impacted or is still under the gumline or embedded in the jaw bone may require a surgical extraction, which is a form of oral surgery. A surgical extraction means Dr. Won and Brier Creek team will make an incision along your gum line to expose the tooth, and remove any bone that is still covering the tooth to allow it to be removed.
After extraction, Dr. Won will sometimes place special bone graft material into the socket. Bone graft material stimulates bone regeneration, preserving the structure of your jaw. This ensures you will have a strong foundation for future implant placement.
Your comfort is Dr. Won and staff’s top concern and we will make you feel at ease during your extraction procedure. The office will provide you with comfort amenities such as blankets and pillows. We also have noise-canceling headphones you can use with your own listening device.
Dr. Won offers several sedation options for those patients whose nervousness or fear might otherwise prevent them from seeking the care they need.
Dr. Won and his staff are accustomed to treating patients who have not been able to receive care elsewhere, including patients with a high anxiety level, vertigo or gagging problems. Dr. Won is extremely friendly and understanding and will make sure you are comfortable through the entire process.
